Welcome to Genesis Ladies Hockey Club

A weekend of mixed fortunes saw the high-flying 2nds lose out in a closely contested semi-final to Diocesan 1st XI whilst the 5ths registered a great victory and the 3rds and 6ths earned hard-fought draws. Genesis performer of the week was Aoife Budd who represented Leinster in the Senior Inter-provincial tournament. Aoife played very well over the weekend and scored a decisive goal in Leinster's 2-1 victory over Ulster on Sunday. Due to the inter-pro tournament Genesis 1sts had no game over the weekend whilst the 4ths also enjoyed a free weekend.

Dreams of a cup final came to an abrupt end for the 2nds as they went down 1-0 to Diocesan. The teams were dead-locked at 0-0 at half time with few goal mouth opportunities. A short corner in the second half gave Diocesan the chance they were looking for and their on-target direct shot gave them a 1-0 lead. Despite some near misses towards the end of the second half, Genesis failed to secure an equalizer. Focus now turns toward the league with Genesis five points clear at the top and four matches to go. Best of luck to Diocesan in the Cup final

We seem to be a week behind with the 3rds match report so in an unusual move we will bring you last week's report this week - Genesis 3rds took the long trip to Tullamore Saturday (week ago!) and deservedly brought back three points, continuing their excellent form since Christmas. The away side made a positive start, and were rewarded after ten minutes when following some excellent build-up play on the right, Aileen Lambe touched in a cross at the back post to score her first goal of the season. Tullamore stepped up the pressure in the second half, but despite a short corner count of 4-0 in their favour, could not find a way past the Genesis defence. With four minutes to go the away side made the result certain as Helen Johnston finished superbly, first timing a free hit low into the net.

In an exciting and gruelling match Genesis 5ths beat Phoenix 1sts, the league leaders. Ann McCabe scored 17 minutes into the first half and Genesis fought hard to retain their lead until the very end. Phoenix's attack really stepped up a gear in the dying moments of the match but they met with a strong defence. Genesis' team were jubilant with the result and rightly so as they are the only team to have defeated Phoenix in the league. It was the second contest between the two teams in two weeks due to a replay which had resulted in a victory for Phoenix with a score of 2-0.

Genesis 6ths gained a 1-1 draw against a strong Old Alex side at UCD on Saturday. The home team took the lead in the 1st half with a goal from Margaret McKenna. Despite conceding a soft equaliser in the 2nd half Genesis never looked like losing their grip on the game and finished the game happy with their performance and a well-earned share of the spoils. Best of luck to all teams this weekend. Genesis 1st XI play a vital league game in their relegation battle against Corinthians in St Columba's school at 2.15pm on Saturday and would greatly appreciate all support.
